Tessa - OCP'16 Round 3

For Round 3 (storytime)!

For this round we were supposed to use a prompt from the list depending on the character's birthday (in Tessa's case it's October the 12th) and create a story based on that prompt. So... here goes! I wanted to write a Dickensian novel but I ran out of time!

It was a lovely sunny day when Tessa decided to go on a peaceful protest against cuts, gang violence and tax evasion. But just as soon as she reached the bus shelter it started to rain. Some water dripping from the sky isn't enough to stop someone like Tessa but it might slow them down if they got their shoes soaking wet. Which Tessa did. Got her shoes soaked, I mean. So she had to turn back and get her Wellington boots which she never particularly liked but they were reduced in price and quite a bargain when she got them, probably because they had Brusels sprouts on them and everyone hates Brussels sprouts. Except Jamie Oliver but you'll have to ask him. Tessa hated Brussels sprouts too but she is of the generation that knows how to mend and make do and was taught to eat whatever was on the plate in front of them, all important survival skills the generation of your humble narrator is currently learning as they can't get bloody employed. So she put on the ugly wellies and went back to the bus shelter but by that time her bus was gone and she had to wait for the next one. And by the time Tessa actually got to the starting point of the peaceful protest it was already miles ahead and the riot police has cordoned the street off. The protest did end up peaceful and there wasn't much to do for the riot police, especially at the back, so when Tessa (being the brave lady who ain't afraid of no men with a van) walked up to them to ask where they protest went and if there's any chance they can give her a lift the officers were quite talkative, especially one of them who spent all his childhood absolutely abhorring Brussels sprouts and held a firm belief they were the root of all evil in the world. Tessa had explain she was not a fan of Brussels sprouts, and that the wellies had the price reduced and were on sale and the only pair in her size, and that it rained and she missed the bus. The two of them had quite a nice chat and the rest of the riot police eventually decided to join in so Tessa ended up missing that day of exercising her civil right to protest.

And that's how Tessa ended up talking to a wall while wearing ugly boots. _{A wall of riot police, that is.}

PS. They gave her a lift back home! In a riot van!

Kevin had a whole Inaccessibility Sucks theme going on in the last two rounds (it remains to be seen if it stays that way this round), looks like Tessa's running theme is becoming civil protests! And I'm working on a comic page that has a digitally coloured rainy day so it was nice to do something similar but with different media.
