Nothing But Bad News

Rethinking a lot of storytelling stuff lately, and I thought it would be easier if I did it with a clean slate, so here are some some doodles from late November to mid-December that I feel okay posting. I had a lot of struggle with that particular kraft paper, it always looked one way and scanned another so it was hard to leave any of it uncovered.
Yeah, this is me, blaming the sketchbook!

The picture with Nutter is a possible plot development in the future and kind of Nutter's outlook on life in general.

The picture with Chauncey is me shamelessly trying to learn pretty lighting from BBC shows while listening to Eels  - this song has been coming up in my mp3 player a lot lately, and it kind of fits Chance too, or the way police officers tend to be bringers of bad news whether they like it or not. Kids love sirens and flashing lights on cars but no adult wants to see them in front of their home, and if they do want to see them things are already are bad enough.

And a couple of answers for Tigerach - sorry I couldn't get them all done, I'll try better next time! I HOPE LUCKY'S HAPPY FACE IS A REASONABLE CONSOLATION.

It seems like every time I try to rethink and rewrite Cop Story this is what I return to as a root of sorts - Nutter and Chauncey meeting and parting ways and vulnerable civilians they struggle to protect. And it's a lot of stories, and it's hard to fit them all in and tell them properly - on some days I'd rather be knee-deep in police procedural and gallows humour, on other days I go back to Lucky and other kids and go on about accessibility, social model of disability and so on. On some days I draw piss bags. If I knew a way of juggling it without causing any annoyance to the readers I'd do it but I'm still trying to figure it out. Maybe admitting it is the first part of it...

Anyway, I'm tremendously grateful to you all for sticking around and tolerating my rambling, and waiting for comics that end up being rewritten and rethumbnailed, and AGAIN, and following through and keeping some interest. It means a lot, and makes a difference.
