Description

So I finished the sketchbook I did Inktober in and I'm back to the wonderful world of weird empty spaces because my doodles are differently sized (it's not that bad here because only one picture is from a different sketchbook). Except not really because one thing Inktober taught me is that it's REALLY NICE to flip though a sketchbook and get an idea of a couple of months of life inside my head instead of a bunch of random drawings starting in early 2013. So one of my new year resolutions is going to be trying to stick to the same sketchbook until it's over unless I REALLY need another type of paper for something. Except for comics, which exists in three sketchbooks for the possibility that I might want to work on three pages at once (it only happened like twice so far but oh well). Well, and honestly the (Nearly) Ten Sketchbooks system was born partly so I could grab an emptier one when going to some art meetup and avoid awkward questions and I'm so done with that, it shouldn't be MY problem. I've been doing this long enough to learn to deal with awkward questions (and yet, and yet).

By now I'm ALMOST ready to start on the comics again but I also want to keep doodling, and there's some stuff I should just PRACTICE DRAWING, so it's going to be doodles with a chance of comics for now.

Anyway, stuff going on here, left to right, top to bottom:
  • My last Inktober doodle after which I dropped the ball. And Chauncey's physio times. Hendon is a college for police training. I'm sure they have some lectures on appropriate conduct but Chauncey probably slept through that.
  • Philip suggests that EVERY 5th of November (except those years he spent in places where they take such ideas seriously so it reflects on the time when you get out of those places).
  • Drew Ghost Copper while waiting an email from work because it was Friday the 13th. It's basically a version of a scene in the old Chapter 1 (you don't have to doubt if if it goes in the new version).
  • My second-to-the-last Inktober doodle, Mrs Jenkins and Ralph. Also what looks like the last autumn-themed doodle this season - it already snowed twice, shops already switched to commercializing winter holidays of your choice and I always thought of November as a grim depressing month. Particularly this year, pick any reason you can think of.
  • Despite (or perhaps because) all that I got randomly hit by the urge of drawing something warm and cheerful so it's Kevin and his dad. This is the Kevin who lives in North London but I'm really tempted to keep his old Newton town version (with an entirely different background) as some sort of mysterious doppelganger because I don't have the heart to neither ditch him nor rename him. I'm still not sure how I'll explain the double Kevin effect but hey, we have ghosts! We have disability representation! I don't think anyone is even going to notice an extra Kevin wheeling around... Well, except for the people who just read this.
  • A very rare occasion when I didn't feel the urge to ink something. I've been practising drawing Cord Cable more consistently and just liked how he looked in graphite pencil. Also I've been listening to way too much David Bowie lately.
  • A new PCSO we've all been waiting for! Unfortunately she's still unnamed because I want a MARVELLOUS name for her and I can't pick yet (and she's not named in the scenes she's in so far anyway, so I have some time). :D
  • A wild Bean appears again! I think if Bean and Lucky became friends their mutual interests would rotate around the metaphysical conundrum of "if a fireman and a policeman had a fight, who would win". Unfortunately Bean and Lucky are not friends YET because while Lucky's mother uses the radical approach of letting her son watch telly in his room any time he's not in school that's not quite equipped for his needs, Bean's mother uses the radical approach of making her son a resident student at a local special school and taking him home as little as possible. So it's not like Lucky and Bean have many chances to meet.
  • I'm naturally dying to tell you about how the new wild-haired PCSO gets on with her fellow PCSO Ace Trotley but I'll resist and LET YOU GUESS IF YOU WANT (but won't necessarily confirm or deny anything). Psychotic

One thing I noticed with this one, there are some with borders and some without. Yet somehow, the one with Chauncey and Ghost Copper blends so seamlessly without a border that it's just amazing. I don't know but it's just so satisfying to see the compilation overall, too.

The looks of utter distaste is hilarious on Chauncey and Phillip, they've got their own twist to the expression. Oh Phillip. I don't know why that particular dialogue made me giggle as hard as I did. Sometimes you gotta do the tough stuff to get things done, but unfortunately not everybody would agree with you.

I'm absolutely loving the oranges you've put with the sketches with Mrs Jenkins and Ralph, Kevin and his dad, and Bean. You've managed to show so many degrees of warmth in all three of them, especially with the muted one in the second one. Also, I'm digging your pencil work, it's so really expressive.

Looking forward to seeing more of the new (currently unnamed) PCSO. I really like her design, she's got such a happy smile and she's got such soft and fluffy looking hair (like touchable fluffy).
